Granite Avocados

Victoria, BC, 2001

The Granite Avocados are located in front of The Hotel Grand Pacific on Victoria’s Inner Harbour.  The Hotel Grand Pacific is an international hotel where the world comes to see Victoria.

Conceptually the work is a metaphor for Victoria as a focal point within the world.  This concept is illustrated by the Avocado, a seed, broken open to reveal its core.  The seed is the substance of the whole.

The Avocados are made of six tons of Campbell River Granite.  The chop sticks are powder coated aluminum.
